Rik Johnson is a guitarist residing in the snow-covered mountains of northern Colorado, and his first full-length offering to Psøma is the beautiful Deep Bed. Five intimate playthroughs of Rik's slight of hand with electric guitar as the sole voice, Deep Bed bridges the deeper, drone-focused side of Rik's work with the more melodic aspects of it, bringing to mind respectful comparisons to Roy Montgomery, David Tagg, Manual and Aidan Baker. Deep Bed is a gorgeous release, embodying the equivalent of a pretty garden of colorful flowers set deep inside a whitened valley of empty noise, and carries a sense of melancholic longing throughout, a feeling of looking across a distance at something that brings back a memory of missing someone. Well-adapted music for reading, meditating, sleeping or stargazing, and a welcome balm for the present moment.
