Jonathan Deasy hails from Ireland, and has issued recordings under his birthname and his Quiet Clapping moniker, in addition to being 1/2 of the editing committee for the Strukturriss literary journal. Formant consists of two extended beatless pieces, his first recordings for Psoma Psi Phi, although not his last, if we have anything to do with that. These two pieces swell and glow in their own radiant simplicities, content to be mostly stationary, but never so ambient that you let go of their traits entirely. Formant exemplifies much of what we love about drone music and sustained-tone sounds, and anyone following Psoma since the start of the label will understand just what that means, before even pressing play. For the uninitiated, this would very much appeal to fans of deep listening such as Eliane Radigue, Folke Rabe, or more modern names such as Eleh, Richard Chartier and Benoit Poussin. Quiet and warm synthesis that is at once easy to approach, and deep enough to get lost within. The perfect soundtrack for thawing out as Spring approaches.
