Duenn is a self-described experimental composer from Fukuoka, Japan, who worked with me previously on the collaborative recording "Presence", issued at Opal Tapes in the UK. He approached Psoma some time ago, and through some correspondence we arrived at this beautiful quiet album called Psalm. Seven tracks of evocative minimalism, one of which also features a collaboration with Takuro Okada (who previously released work with Duenn at Chihei Hatakeyama's White Paddy Mountain imprint three years ago). These pieces are warm and inviting, and easily imply scenes of stillness and contemplation in slow environments. Duenn's music works well for the intimate moments of introspection we all have, gazing out a window or waiting for sleep to claim us in our beds, and arrives right on time for a pleasant Autumn season here in the midwestern United States.
Duenn and I have also completed a second collaborative recording, Absence, which will be released before the end of this year. Contented listeners are encouraged to explore Duenn's catalog of work, issued at such excellent places as LINE, Entr'acte, and/OAR and Past Inside The Present, as well as via Duenn's own self-released outlets.
