The first solo LSZ recording to be issued at Psoma Psi Phi, following two charity splits with Dave Burraston, is the sparse Compound Displacement - an experimental vessel generated with a Zoom H1, Soma Ether v2 "Anti Radio" and a piezoelectric microphone, using captured spatial, vibrational and electrical events in transit between Centerville and Franklin, Ohio in August of 2020. This recording could be interpreted as a dub album without any of the musicians playing, only the traces and invisible contours of their presence remaining in this surrealistic nearly still-life. The development of this piece was influenced by Richard Chartier, Francisco Lopez and France Jobin first and foremost, and secondarily, Stockhausen and Xenakis cast their own shadows over the process. This work is an accumulation of sonic detritus that would otherwise be excised, filtered and edited out of a more conventional recording, and attempts to highlight this sound-matter from a new perspective, allowing it to exist as its own microverse of movement and shadow, a new music that is bereft of any philosophical purpose beyond that which the listener inscribes upon it.
