Assembled by hand, one copy at a time, in the White Pillar Workshop. Two white 5" recordable compact discs, printed and duplicated via an Imation D20, held securely inside a clear cast-polypropylene dual-disk jacket with a cloth membrane separating the two discs, bearing two hand-cut cardstock inserts (with color variants in blue/recycled brown) with white text labels on the front and back covers.

Originally broadcast for International Sloth Day in an online A/V stream on October 20th, 2022, 'Pale Blue' is a generative ambient recording that was composed in realtime by the R-EW Audioholistics modular system. It consists of a patch centered around Mutable Instruments' Rings, a digital Karplus-Strong synthesizer, being sequenced in the Dorian scale by two Ornament & Crime modules with timing information coming from a Turing machine.

This broadcast followed Milieu's 'Creation' - a twelve-hour overnight session - that quietly started a series of longform generative ambient works issued twice a month, following an online stream of the patch, however 'Pale Blue' was much more modest in length, at only two hours, and so it was decided that it would be better suited to a release here at Psoma.

'Pale Blue' is being offered as a low-priced digital release and physically as a limited edition 2xCD-R set. It can now be seen as a figurative branch between Milieu's work in the Psoma catalog and the ongoing longform broadcasts happening outside of it, and would appeal to any listeners that enjoy generative sound, slow-motion synthesis and indistinct yet accessible audio that may be used as a utility for reading and writing, sleeping and meditating, painting and programming.
